Ok, I know that some people say that I hid my bike to get out of this whole trip, but no, I did not hide my bike. I had a bright red Cannondale that I was going to strip and rebuild as my touring bike, BUT someone stole it. I left it down at the ferry on the bike rack one morning when I went to catch the boat. I know that some people say that the ferry dock is the sweet spot for stealing bikes on Peaks, but I was in a rush and that night I completely forgot to pick it up. There, end of story.
My mom,
One of the issues with my mom is that she thinks that I am lying all the time. It is true sometimes I lie, but sometimes I don’t. Sometimes, I lie to get out of trouble and the other times is just to make life more entertaining.
The truth is, my bike was stolen. If you see it let me know.
Such awful awful parents!
I believe you Oakley. I know people reading this will think I’m a sucker, but I think its stolen, end of story is honest.
People love stealing other peoples things on that island, and i guess in the world at large too. some places are more trustworthy… peaks just isn’t one of them.
its a good place to have faith your bike will come back to you if its really yours. I mean, do you think it got taken off island? ridden off the green? Parked in someones garage?
The trip is happening though… and you are now that much less prepared. You could take the route of just being patient and when you least expect it — while you’re busy taking care of OTHER things (which there has to be a wide variety of other things you could concentrate on preparing for prior to this trip.. mapping routes, seeking out sites you may be near you want to see, writing friends who are in other states who may be able to meet up with you and your mom) — your bike will reappear . Or a really great alternative solution, who knows.
The thing is you got sent outside in the cold to be PROACTIVE. Wish i was around and we could of had tea that day!
In any event, sounds like you need to start finding yourself a new frame to work on.
I don’t suggest stealing one.
Happy New Year!
love, Jess
I’ll look around the Quadrangle!
Wicked sorry to hear this Oakley. Some people just weren’t raised right. If it doesn’t turn up, I may have one you can use for your trip.
I sure hope you find your bike Oakley. This adventure with your mom sounds amazing!
I hope that this blog continues, the stories continue and the trip still takes place. Leah, maybe you can get a tandem bike or Oakley can roller skate or skate or jog while you bike. What do you think?
We would kill each other on a tandem bike. how are you doing?????
Great writing, Oakley!
